Józef Robakowski

Józef Robakowski is a precursor of Polish video art. His work spans over fifty years and connects several generations of video art. Now and Then presents an hour long selection of works entitled My Own Cinema. The compilation contains Robakowski’s video experiments and documentations of performances. The exhibition presents iconic works such as Test (1971), From My Window (1978-1999) and Art is Power (1984-1995). The selected films represent two overlapping perspectives, in which first contains formal experiments, while the second includes records of the artist himself in his surroundings, reflecting a unique portrait of communist Poland and its subsequent political transformation.
